Are you all still wanting to come to the lake in October? The weekend that we set is also OSU Homecoming weekend. How many does that affect?

This may be tricky for me since our oldest, Natalie, will be a freshman this year! But I do have my priorities, so I will also plan to be there!
Also, can we talk about recruitment(aka Rush) at OSU? Natalie will be going through this year and after my niece had a horrible experience last year, we are freaked out! Do you have to know someone in the house to get a good rush these days? And what do you know about the real story on recs? I suspect they are not looked at until the final days of rush, but that is just my opinion...my niece was cut from gpb the first day and I had sent a glowing rec and she has everything going for her. What's going on?

That is strange about your niece. When I was rush chairman every girl that had a rec got an automatic "courtesy carry" to the second day of parties. What's the purpose then?
Okay - I tired to post yesterday but couldn't mamange to make it work. Here goes again - I would love to still come down that weekend. But I can be flexible, so just let me know. And I agree with Susan, Vicki - your niece shouldn't have been cut the first day. Do you want one of us to talk to someone for you? I bet Terry Baker knows who to contact.

Thanks Kem, but that is water under the bridge for my niece...she was crushed by the whole experience and never got connected at OSU...she transferred to OU for the spring semester! She has a good friend there and will rush this fall. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her. As for Natalie, she is getting recs for the major houses and I am asking friends and relatives who know actives in the houses to put in a good word and be looking for her during recruitment week. It is so nerve-wracking!! If any of you sisters can be of assistance, I would be glad to email a copy of her resume and picture.
I am very low tech and have NO idea what I am doing or how to do this...so ?? here it goes
#1 first of all, I don't know anything about a trip to the lake, but if it is Homecoming weekend...sorry, I am too traditional...can't miss homecoming....OSU supposedly has one of the biggest homecoming celebrations in the country !! If ya'll have not been there in years for the walkaround on Friday night...it is awesome ! I wish ya'll would come to Homecoming !!
#2 I will try to get ya'll some clarification on recs. I do know that rush is MUCH more competitive than when we were there. Especially at OSU, the Gamma Phis are one of THE TOP houses on campus right now !! There are hundreds of girls coming thru with 4.0 and better. There are hundreds of legacies. Even though we all know legacies who got cut, almost 1/2 of last year's pledge class was legacies. Also, the definition of a legacy is sister, daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter (also includes "step" relatives) but nieces are not legacies.
gotta run, I'll try to get a "rec" answer for ya :)
